The Vestas Empowerment Trust (VESTAS) is spearheading such efforts with its Wind Renewable Energy Scholarship Programme for 2024. This scholarship aims to not only support Black female students from disadvantaged backgrounds but also cultivate talent in STEM disciplines, particularly within the wind renewable energy sector.

Bursary Details:

VESTAS, known for its commitment to primary education programmes in Makhanda, Eastern Cape, has strategically shifted its focus towards funding a scholarship programme. This new approach seeks to provide holistic support to Black female students, ensuring they have the best chances of success while simultaneously nurturing skills for the wind industry. Teaming up with Tshikululu Social Investments as a trust administrator, VESTAS aims to execute this project effectively.

Candidate Requirements:

The scholarship targets Grade 12 learners or undergraduate students in 2023, pursuing degrees in Electrical, Mechanical, and Mechatronic Engineering. This includes higher certificate and diploma programs in Mechatronic and Electrical Engineering at selected institutions. To be eligible, applicants must be Black students as defined by the B-BBEE Code of Conduct, South African citizens, and possess a minimum academic average of 60% in Grade 12 and undergraduate studies. Additionally, applicants must be self-funded, excluding those with other bursary or NSFAS funding.

Selected Higher Education Institutions:

The scholarship provides full support at partner higher educational institutions including the University of Cape Town, Nelson Mandela University, and Boland College. These institutions offer reputable programs in STEM disciplines, ensuring recipients receive quality education and training in alignment with the wind renewable energy sector.
